The 4Cs for success as a woman in leadership Part four: Capability
Capability is having the power or ability to do something successfully. It enables us to lead with skill and confidence.
When you move into a leadership position at work, you might receive some extra training so you can manage the people in your team. But management skills and leadership skills are two entirely different things. All too often, people find themselves equipped with the tools and skills to manage other people, but not to lead them.
In the first three parts of this series, we discussed many of the capabilities of a good leader – such as having clarity and vision, strong self-confidence, and effective communication skills. To become a well-rounded, unstoppable leader, you also need to develop a high level of awareness about your personality and individual leadership style, as well as the importance of understanding different perspectives.
Ask yourself these four questions:
- Do you have the capability to bring everyone along with you as a leader?
- Do you understand what motivates you?
- Do you understand what motivates the people you lead?
- Do you have a vision and plan in place for what type of leader you want to be?
It’s okay if you’re not quite there yet. It can be challenging for leaders to work with the varying dynamics of themselves, their teams and the people they engage with. The great news about capability is that we can continually develop it.
If you answered “No” or “I’m not sure” to any of the questions, we can teach you how to become a leader that drives meaningful change. The secret is that no leader can do everything themselves. That’s why you need to understand the strengths and motivations of those around you to maximise success.
In the Mind Matrix Women + Leadership Program, we talk about moving from capable to competent. What we mean by this is that we’ll teach you the skills you need to lead yourself and others authentically, effectively and inspirationally. We’ll show you how to build awareness of your capability and develop the skills to become a remarkable leader. You’ll learn to understand different personalities and perspectives, develop intent in your goal setting, and conquer your leadership plan so you can bring your vision to life and successfully lead yourself and others.
We look forward to you joining us in the Women + Leadership Program as we explore the four Cs of successful leadership in more depth. We’re excited to help you discover how to transform your leadership from uncertain to unstoppable, as you develop the clarity, confidence, communication and capability to achieve amazing things in your life and career.
The next program launches on Friday 5th August. See you there!
